TICKETS TORN IN HALF:August 8,1995- SANTANA/JEFF BECK @ JONES BEACH. I wrote no notes after seeing this show and have no stub in my jar as this evening was a second row seat complimentary of MTV-Networks. Beck and Santan were co-billing the tour, each taking a turn as opening act. Tonight was JEFF BECK’S turn. There is a pretty good bootleg cd of this nights performance. SANTANA was okay but left me cold.

I’ve seen Santana twice, in 2014 together with The Allman Brothers, and a second time in April 2016 together with Journey. The first time was pretty good, the second time spectacular! The latter show with the classic Santana band, which Carlos had put together again for an album (Santana IV) and a tour supporting the record.
I’ve also seen Jeff Beck together with Buddy Guy a few years ago – both were awesome! – and will see him again this Sunday, together with Paul Rodgers and Ann Wilson as part of the “Stars Align Tour.”
At first, I was a bit lukewarm about the concept of throwing together three “aging rockers,” but based on reviews and clips I’ve seen, this should be a great show.
